As we are counting down the last hours of 2021 I'm starting to feel a bit melancholic. While 2020 was a year that caught us off guard with the pandemic hitting full force, 2021 was marked by a new type of normality setting in. Running a photography business that largely relies on being able to travel and move around freely is definitely a challenge in these new conditions. For the time being we can't travel the globe as freely as we once did, even taking trips in our closer surroundings is often curbed by what seems like a never ending series of lockdowns and curfews. I sincerely hope that 2022 will bring back some of the freedom we've become accustomed to.
I have to admit that finding motivation to go for a photo shoot was quite a challenge in the past year. This also reflects in the photos I took in the past 12 months. Not only did I take fewer photos than I did in pre-pandemic years, but also were most of them taken in a radius of about 10 kilometers around my house. 2021 taught me to change my perspective and learn to see everyday surroundings in a new light. I found myself being a tourist in my own hometown for much of the year. The only major trip I took this past year was to the Greek island of Paros.
Below you’ll see my favorite photos of 2021. I wish you all the very best and Happy New Year 2022!
